The Producer's Perspective: How My Personal Values Shape My Music

Updated: Jun 26, 2024

Everyone has their own definition of how certain things should sound, and how it should be done. Sometimes it can spark a little contraversy because people are not emotionally open minded enough to understand what's going on behind the opinion, or why someone does a certain thing.

What's been on my mind as of late is how some producers overuse the sound of autotune, and pitch correction. If you don't know what that is you may want to do some research outside of my blogs.

Anyway, My views can be quite old fashioned. I do not do Autotune or pitch correction on my vocals. I believe in the value of practice. I record a few takes over and over until I get something that fits the quality of how I sound, and what I am comfortable with. Even though this Autotune can make certain sounds "popular" It can damage the quality of skills that the singer/vocalist posesses. This can affect your brain wiring. How you perform live, sing acapella, or under spontaneous circumstances I. E Sing by Request.

As well as being a producer myself I have been a singer/vocalist since I was a small child. I was in a two piece chior in primary school, singing Diseny songs. My group was briefly in a quick scene of a Munsters movie back in the day. But I never tell anyone that!

I started vocal lessons when I was 14, and sung at various school music concerts. I was in two rock bands that were short lived. But it was really awesome. I spent almost my entire adult life singing, and learning to overcome the obastacles of all my vocal mistakes. I did not jam with anybody famous. But man I loved it because It relieved a lot of stress, gave me a sense of freedon of self expression. I was liberated full of adrenaline everytime I went on stage. I may be blowing my trumpet here. But I had a few standing ovations.

I was not a producer back then. I also did not have the money at the time to buy my own studio equiptment. So I made do.

Autotune and pitch correction can easily undermine the true essence of music. I firmly believe that taking shortcuts compromises the integrity of the craft, which is why I avoid them. I am dedicated to preserving the authenticity of my work and maintaining the raw, unfiltered sound that genuinely represents my artistic vision. I wasn't put on this earth to take the easy way out; instead, I'm here to honor the process and do things the way I believe they should be done. This commitment to authenticity and quality is what drives my passion for creating music.
